Every day I like to go for a long walk. Lately I have been driving over to this neighborhood that is a hell of a lot nicer than mine and walking about 2.5 miles. In the process of walking, there is always something to see in the way of wildlife.
As I discovered firsthand today it is still Turkey mating season in our area and I was trying to get my camera-phone freed up to take a picture of this big ol’ Tom with his feathers in full plumage...such a handsome boy! About 30 seconds later I came upon about 5 to 7 Turkeys that were at the time “doin’ it”...they were not pleased with my arrival and three of them left their, um..."position" to come after me. I figured yeah-right and kept on walking but then I started hearing this “clipity-clipity-clipity” sound of their claws hitting the pavement...fast and faster and faster.
Now I’m not saying that I started running, but I was at a pretty good trot when I looked and they were about 30 feet behind me and gaining. I picked up a couple of rocks and since I can’t throw for shit I completely missed them and I think I may have pissed them off cause one sorta took to flight and just missed nippin me in the ass.
I am happy to report that at about that time a neighbor who was using a leaf blower on his yard saw my plight and headed to the front of his yard with his leaf blower to frighten them.
The turkeys just got pissed off and chased him up his drive allowing me to make a break for it.
I’ll be back tomorrow sling-shot in hand...no Turkey is gonna make a turkey outta me!
