What if the stray had been squished by a car? No story there.
A military grade electric fence would have been effective, too, but people would then whine about neighbor kids frying on it. A .410 is an effective and selective weapon but too attention grabbing.
One of the comenters mentioned a Victor’s rat trap would have been as effective and quieter.
