tonight’s not Jack Sparrow

Arrrrrrrr.

...a ransom of $3million was paid to Somali pirates to end the world’s biggest ship hijacking. The canister full of cash was parachuted onto the Sirius Star… and the two-month ordeal of the 25 crew, including two Britons, was finally over.

However things went badly wrong for the pirates soon after the drop - they squabbled over how to split the money and then a wave washed off their getaway boat and drowned five of them.… as they made off they continued to row about the payout. ‘Two of them swam and survived. One is still missing. The weather was so terrible that it blew the boat over, then sank it. We got five dead bodies and we are still searching for the missing one. The waves were disastrous,’ said Farah Osman, an associate of the gang.

It is not known what happened to the money or those who survived.

Evidently, they did not step quite as gracefully onto the dock.

As for Depp, he makes movies I can watch with my kids. Very versitile and talented. I like him.
Great comments by 11B40 & Stepps. You can tell when someone is raised by responsible parents, they pass those traits on.  And I too have sent both boys thru motorcycle safety class and my 16 yr old daughter passed her’s last month, doesn’t even have her license to drive yet. But it shows her I trust her. Even better, someday she’s gonna get on the back of a bike w/ some boy and she will know when he’s riding irresponsible.  Just hope she has the estrogen to tell him to stop it now or she’ll walk. (I’m just a phone call away).

Costa Rico is the only nation on the list I could agree with.  A stable democracy since ‘48, Low cost of living, good health care, great climate.  Their life expectancy is on par with the US.  My best friend moved there this past year and loves it.  Great place for one to live in retirement as a coupe can live comfortably on approx. $1,000 a month.  Flight from the capitol to Miami, FL is 2 1/2 hours.

“I’m not raising a child; I’m raising a man.” Good words, and the correct response to his mother’s statement.  It says something, we all know about the sissyfication of children, boys in particular.  That kind of female-think has held dominance in child rearing for 30 years, look how it’s worked out.

Many mothers want their children to be children forever and treat them that way, shielding them from all perceived emotional harm and stress.  Fathers are the ones that push them to grow into responsible adults, demanding more of them and booting the birds out of the nest.  Even good Conservative mothers can have trouble with that, it’s a mother’s nature.

Five or so years ago I started making noises about Stepdaughter #1 driving and got very dirty looks from Mrs. Annoyed.  She’s now 19 and learning to ride a motorcycle, Mrs. Annoyed herself took her to get her learner’s permit.  SD#2 will be working on her regular license this Summer.  It’s always worst for the first kid, when they survive life’s changes it’s easy for the next to overcome Mom’s protective instincts, they’ve calmed down a bit.

My point is to remember we’re not raising children, we’re raising adults, as 11B40’s father wisely understood and was able to make his wife understand.  Thanks for sharing.

P.S.: You should see the reaction from Mrs. Annoyed when I mention the girls getting married and having children.  It’s fun.

Compare this with the OAS’s vote on June 3 to readmit Cuba as a member. It did so at the urging of Obama.

I’m waiting for someone in the OAS or Obama administration to explain this apparent double standard.
