Fire investigators sifted through the charred remains of a destroyed Mendota Heights home last week, searching for what sparked the blaze.
“It appears it was most likely caused by spontaneous combustion in a flowerpot on the deck,” city Fire Chief John Maczko said this week.
Maczko said the potting soil — made up of peat moss, vermiculite, fertilizer and other ingredients — had heated up in its plastic pot after several days of high temperatures and humidity.
Yeesh…
“It’s really rare,” ... “Halogen lights, smoking, candles and Pop-Tarts in a toaster — there are a lot of things higher on the priority list than a potted plant fire.”
“Pop-Tarts”?!?!??!
