PLTTTTTTTTTTTTTTT

“I’m not raising a child; I’m raising a man.” Good words, and the correct response to his mother’s statement. It says something, we all know about the sissyfication of children, boys in particular. That kind of female-think has held dominance in child rearing for 30 years, look how it’s worked out.
Many mothers want their children to be children forever and treat them that way, shielding them from all perceived emotional harm and stress. Fathers are the ones that push them to grow into responsible adults, demanding more of them and booting the birds out of the nest. Even good Conservative mothers can have trouble with that, it’s a mother’s nature.
Five or so years ago I started making noises about Stepdaughter #1 driving and got very dirty looks from Mrs. Annoyed. She’s now 19 and learning to ride a motorcycle, Mrs. Annoyed herself took her to get her learner’s permit. SD#2 will be working on her regular license this Summer. It’s always worst for the first kid, when they survive life’s changes it’s easy for the next to overcome Mom’s protective instincts, they’ve calmed down a bit.
My point is to remember we’re not raising children, we’re raising adults, as 11B40’s father wisely understood and was able to make his wife understand. Thanks for sharing.
P.S.: You should see the reaction from Mrs. Annoyed when I mention the girls getting married and having children. It’s fun.
in 'spokesbabe'.Been to 3 of those places. Hard to tell how happy those folks were as they scrambled for their meager existence. This list is a load of horse shit.
in 'todaze KisP INDEPENDENCE day fun facts'.Compare this with the OAS’s vote on June 3 to readmit Cuba as a member. It did so at the urging of Obama.
I’m waiting for someone in the OAS or Obama administration to explain this apparent double standard.
in 'today's declaration of independence'.I am deeply concerned. No, really…

Fortunately, I grew up in Texas where guns have always been considered a part of life.
Greetings:
Now that I think of it, is Mr. Depp old enough to have had legal access to “submachine guns”?

I grew up in the Bronx of the last ‘50s and ‘60s but was fortunate to be in a family that had a summer bungalow about 60 miles north in Putnam County. Thus, I had the benefit of both an urban culture and a country culture.
Spending summers upstate, my friends were country boys, used to going into the woods, camping overnight, and having our days to ourselves with no threat of nearby adult supervision. Before long, I wanted to acquire the local accoutrements, guns and knives being my highest priorities.
My city-girl mother wasn’t having any of it; my father, born in Ireland and a WWII graduate, quickly became my only chance for a successful acquisition. Initially, I separated him from his “war-knife” and subsequently began working on him for a 22 caliber rifle. When my mother found out that my father was having me join a gun club in preparation for my new tool, he and my mother had an intensive dinner time discussion about the appropriateness of a relative youngster having his own firearm.
My mother insisted that this was no way to raise a child. My father’s conclusionary statement was “I’m not raising a child; I’m raising a man.”
The next Saturday, I got my Remington 500.
in 'spokesbabe'.Heading out to the one in Austin between 2 and 4.
