Myanmar’s military regime is apparently trying to turn aid distribution to cyclone victims into a propaganda exercise.
State-run television has continuously run images of top generals handing out boxes of aid to survivors at elaborate ceremonies.
The director of Burma Campaign UK, which campaigns for human rights and democracy in the country, says regional commanders have been putting their names on aid shipments and calling it ”a gift from them.”
One box bore the name of a rising star in the government hierarchy in bold letters that overshadowed a smaller label reading: “Aid from the Kingdom of Thailand.”
