President Barack Obama is among those making the case that American kids aren’t spending enough time in school.
The president says that puts them at a disadvantage compared to other students around the globe. He’s pushing for schools to add time to classes, to stay open later and to let kids in on weekends so they have a safe place to go.
And he’s not the only one for it. His education secretary, Arne Duncan, notes that the American school calendar is based on the agrarian economy, and as he puts it, “not too many of our kids are working the fields today.”

Long-secret security tapes showing the chaos immediately after the 1995 bombing of the Oklahoma City federal building are blank in the minutes before the blast and appear to have been edited, an attorney who obtained the recordings said Sunday.
“The real story is what’s missing,” said Jesse Trentadue, a Salt Lake City attorney who obtained the recordings through the federal Freedom of Information Act as part of an unofficial inquiry he is conducting into the April 19, 1995, bombing that killed 168 people and injured hundreds more.
Trentadue gave copies of the tapes to The Oklahoman newspaper, which posted them online and provided copies to The Associated Press.
The tapes turned over by the FBI came from security cameras various companies had mounted outside office buildings near the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building. They are blank at points before 9:02 a.m., when a truck bomb carrying a 4,000 pound fertilizer-and-fuel-oil bomb detonated in front of the building, Trentadue said.
“Four cameras in four different locations going blank at basically the same time on the morning of April 19, 1995. There ain’t no such thing as a coincidence,” Trentadue said…
Yeah, yeah, yeah...I’ve read all the conservative-baiting, “this is big government socialism, straight up”, reviews.
How any red-blooded American could politicize a documentary about our National Parks system is just beyond me.
I’ll admit to being somewhat critical of Burns’ last documentary The War but bearing in mind that he conceived and shot National Parks long before the recent rise in anti-government sentiment, it’s a bit of a stretch to accuse Burns of poking a finger into the eye of capitalism.
Unlike these cynics, I refuse to allow politics to spoil what looks to be a beautifully-shot film on some of our nation’s greatest treasures.
How many Lympian comments does it take to “discuss” Glenn Beck’s irrelevancy on a gorgeous sunny fall Sunday morning?
So far, 116 and it’s barely 11 am!
Perhaps there’s still hope:
Indiana Treasurer Richard Mourdock filed an appeal with the U.S. Supreme Court seeking review of the legality of the Obama-forced bankruptcy of Chrysler, LLC.
Mourdock is petitioning the Court to rule on Barack Obama’s blatant disregard of the U.S. Constitution, Article 1, Section 8, which explicitly authorizes Congress, and *not* the president, to determine bankruptcy laws. In particular, Mourdock is challenging the president’s unashamed indifference to more than 220 years of bankruptcy precedent, which puts senior, or secured, creditors ahead of junior, or unsecured, creditors during bankruptcy proceedings.

Former President Bill Clinton said Sunday that the “vast right-wing conspiracy” that worked against his presidency is alive and well, albeit in slightly reduced numbers.
“It’s not as strong as it was, because America has changed demographically. But it’s as virulent as it was,” Clinton said on NBC’s “Meet the Press.”

Washington (CBS) — The Obama Administration plans to give $400,000 in funding to a Libyan charity run by the Gadhafi family....
The money would be divided between two foundations run by the family of Libyan leader Muammar Gadhafi. A $200,000 share is set to go to the Gadhafi Development Foundation, which is run by Gadhafi’s son, Saif, and another $200,000 are to go to Wa Attassimou, an organization run by Muammar Gadhafi’s daughter, Aisha. ... Saif Gadhafi was involved in negotiating for [Pan Am 103 bomber] Megrahi’s release, and accompanied him back to Libya.
Obama is the most despicable jackass ever to pee off the White House balcony.
How does his behavior differ from treason?
Seriously.

One of these days, somebody’s gonna file an impeachment motion.
(What? Oh, yeah ... Ev-er-y frik-kin’ daaaaay !)
In his rambling diatribe to the U.N. General Assembly Wednesday, Libyan President Muammar Gaddafi criticized the world body for being unfair to small nations. This comment struck a chord with the Swiss, since Gaddafi has been on a self-proclaimed mission to destroy their little country.
A few weeks ago, Gaddafi submitted a proposal to the U.N. to abolish Switzerland and divide it up along linguistic lines, giving parts of the country to Germany, France and Italy. Although the motion was thrown out because it violates the U.N. Charter stating that no member country can threaten the existence of another............

Well ... kind’a.
Imagine if there were no reliable records of global surface temperature. Raucous policy debates such as cap-and-trade would have no scientific basis, Al Gore would at this point be little more than a historical footnote, and President Obama would not be spending this U.N. session talking up a (likely unattainable) international climate deal in Copenhagen in December.
Steel yourself for the new reality, because the data needed to verify the gloom-and-doom warming forecasts have disappeared.

The Army is allowing the first commissioned officer to be court-martialed for refusing to go to Iraq to resign from the service, his attorney said late Friday.
First Lt. Ehren Watada will be granted a discharge Oct. 2, “under other than honorable conditions,” attorney Kenneth Kagan said.
