White House lawyers are mulling the legality of proposed attempts to kill an American citizen, Anwar al Awlaki, who is believed to be part of the leadership of the al Qaeda group in Yemen behind a series of terror strikes, according to two people briefed by U.S. intelligence officials.
One of the people briefed said opportunities to “take out” Awlaki “may have been missed” because of the legal questions surrounding a lethal attack which would specifically target an American citizen…
Well, the big difference here and in ’94 was you’ve got me…
Your Slip is Showing.
Center-left daily Süddeutsche Zeitung writes on Thursday:
“Obama made a serious misjudgement. Right at the beginning of his first year in office, he saved the banks, rescued the automobile industry from collapse and passed a huge economic stimulus package. He had hoped that these enormous deeds would give him the space to address those issues which are dearest to him: health care reform, climate change and investment in education.”
“Those issues, however, are clearly not priorities for people in the US at the moment. Scott Brown campaigned on two promises, both of which apparently struck a nerve with the electorate. He wants to block health care reform and he wants to find ways to reduce the enormous budget deficit. It is here where the roots of dissatisfaction with Obama are to be found. His reform agenda, in its current form, is highly suspect to Americans. And they have the impression that, if he continues piling up debt, he will be gambling away the country’s future.”
The Financial Times Deutschland writes:
“...For everyone else in the world, this means that they will have to bid farewell to a candidate for whom the hopes were so high. They will have to say goodbye to the charisma they fell in love with. Obama will be staying home after all.”
erm… no thanks. Y’all can have him.

I want to make this absolutely clear. I did not run for president to turn away from these challenges. I didn’t run to kick (applause) these challenges down the road. I ran for president to confront them once and for all. I ran for this office to rebuild our economy so it works not just for the fortunate few, but everybody who is willing to work hard.
~
I want you to understand, this is not about me.
~ This is not about me. (applause) This is about you. This is not about me. This is about you. I didn’t take this up to boost my poll numbers. You know, the way to boost your poll numbers is not do anything. (laughter) That’s how you do it. You don’t offend anybody. I’d have real high poll numbers. All of Washington would be saying, “What a genius.” (laughter) I didn’t take this on to score political points. I know there’s some folks who think, you know, if Obama loses, we win. But, you know what? I think that I win when you win.
~
So long as I have some breath in me, so long as I have the privilege of serving as your president, I will not stop fighting for you. I will take my lumps. (applause) But I won’t stop fighting to bring back jobs here. I won’t stop fighting for an economy where hard work is rewarded. I won’t stop fighting to make sure there’s accountability in our financial system. I’m not going to stop fighting until we have jobs for everybody.

Rush Limbaugh is so reviled by the left, that even when he agrees with liberals and issues facts supporting their arguments, they criticize him and demand an apology.
The latest such group to deride Limbaugh for supposedly offensive comments that they themselves have supported is the Anti-Defamation League…
White House advisers appearing on the Sunday talk shows gave three different estimates of how many jobs could be credited to President Obama’s Recovery Act…
Obama has suspicious number of letter-writing fans named ‘Ellie Light’
By Sabrina Eaton, The Plain Dealer
Ellie Light sure gets around. In recent weeks, Light has published virtually identical “Letters to the Editor” in support of President Barack Obama in more than a dozen newspapers.Every letter claimed a different residence for Light that happened to be in the newspaper’s circulation area.
“It’s time for Americans to realize that governing is hard work, and that a president can’t just wave a magic wand and fix everything,” said a letter from alleged Philadelphian Ellie Light, that was published in the Jan. 19 edition of The Philadelphia Daily News.A letter from Light in the Jan. 20 edition of the San Francisco Examiner concluded with an identical sentence, but with an address for Light all the way across the country in Daly City, California.
Light – who e-mailed an identical missive to this reporter on Jan. 16 without listing a hometown – would not answer e-mailed questions about the address discrepancies in newspapers that ran her letter, or her identity, although she did say she wasn’t a former co-worker of this reporter’s who had a similar name. ...etc.

Ohhh, yes. I’m sure there will be more.
Rollover added, above — idea was stolen from Claire in comments.
It’ll also have to serve as the elusive acceptable-light-loafers joke.
Six months after Cambridge police Sergeant James Crowley’s arrest of a black Harvard professor sparked a national debate over race relations, state officials vetoed an invitation last week to have him speak at the graduation of a class of police cadets.
The snub offended Crowley’s brother, Daniel, who said he was told that the class of 54 cadets from various municipal police departments voted for his brother to speak at their April 30 graduation from the Randolph Regional Police Training Academy, but was overruled.
