This is the reason behind the increasing number of hyphenated Americans.  The more divisions you create in a society, the harder it is to achieve consensus.  This results in coalition-building and maintaining, just like in Europe.  This requires an enlightened uber-elite to mediate the mess.  In the name of the people, of course.

When most of us sturdy citizens are working productive jobs during the day and seeking to spend quality time with our families in the off time, it is easy for the non working and the bureaucrats and the minor elected officials to do this. 

I confess that I have never attended a city council meeting or at the county level. The inconvenience of going to Santa Fe and finding a parking place (after getting time off of work) is a bit much. This is why we need to take the time and grill, get to know and understand our various elecetd representatives to have a high enough confidence that they will represent US and our interests while they are in office.

I think that guy swings both ways.

It’s revolution from within.  Claire, you are not naive. You, and most of us here, are just regular Americans who go about our business and live our lives. We delusionally believe that America will stay America forever. Unfortunately, that is exactly what the “revolutionaries” want us to do and to believe. It gives them perfect cover to fight their seemingly uncoordinated little battles all across the country and amass small victory after small victory.  They cannot “win” this country by normal revolution so they eat away at it bit by bit from within. And, it is really beginning to add up! Incrementalism.

Either that, or I’m just gay......Ooooops, I forgot; you can’t say that anymore.

I am by no means a conspiracy theorist.....but I am pragmatic enough and know enough about the basic human desire for power that I will not offhandedly discount this possibility Claire.
