Another “Health Care” *Opportunity for Control*

fix this to make us saaaafer

... new research [suggests] individuals born with a certain variant of a gene don’t stay on the road as well as their counterparts. ...30 percent of Americans ....

“These people make more errors from the get-go, and they forget more of what they learned after time away,” ...

Which could encompass a lot of tasks.  The studied group was 30 individuals.  Combine this kind of ‘knowledge’ with the deep, collective financial interest we have in one another through a gubbmint owned/run “health care” system and *yeesh*

While meeting someone new yesterday I extended my hand for the customary greeting but was told that she was just recovering from a cold and did not want to pass on any stray germs during our exchange.

How thoughtful of her! And then it dawned on me. Why hadn’t we used the Michelle Obama fist bump? Most germs are in the palm area of our hands (the moist places) so a fist bump would not carry as much of a risk.

Unfortunately I thought of this idea later so my extended hand being rebuffed was sort of an awkward moment that could have been avoided had I been thinking faster.

New rule: Let’s fist bump when greeting others.

The H1N1 microbes and conspiracy theorists might be annoyed but that’s OK with me.

eyeballs

“The environment” is the most ingenious cover story for Big Government ever devised. You float a rumour that George W. Bush is checking up on what library books you’re reading, and everyone goes bananas. But announce that a government monitoring device has been placed in every citizen’s trash can in the cause of “saving the planet,” and the world loves you.

...At their Monday night poker game in hell, I’ll bet Stalin, Hitler and Mao are kicking themselves: “ ‘It’s about leaving a better planet to our children?’ Why didn’t I think of that?” This is Two-Ply Totalitarianism—no jackboots, no goose steps, just soft and gentle all the way. Nevertheless, occasionally the mask drops and the totalitarian underpinnings become explicit. Take Elizabeth May’s latest promotional poster: “Your parents f*cked up the planet. It’s time to do something about it. Live Green. Vote Green.” As Saskatchewan blogger Kate McMillan pointed out, the tactic of “convincing youth to reject their parents in favour of The Party” is a time-honoured tradition.

From the fluffy-save-the-panda people:

To avoid dangerous climate change and build climate resilience, the way society is structured will need to change fundamentally - from investment patterns to development programs. This cannot be accomplished by a fragmented set of existing institutions.

yummmm

Heading into a long day of horse play, yet expecting 8 for dinner afterwards, I wondered whatinhell I could make to go along with the BBQ tri tip The Mister was making.[There was caesar salad in there, too] [The Mister only does the meat.  period.] Then it struck me:

Hack up some taters bite sizeish - enough to feed ‘em all [add in a couple more] [no peeling - just hacking]
Hack up enough onions to go with ‘em - big pieces
Put all that in one layer in a baking dish [or 2] and drizzle with olive oil, salt, pepper.
[here’s the inspiration part]
Top with half-slices of bacon—not solid, but not chintzy either.

Bake at 350° or so for half an hour.
Serve with ketchup and/or sour cream.

I’d show ya a picture but they’re gone!

Use of a weapon, and especially a firearm, is statistically a woman’s best means of resistance, greatly enhancing her odds of escaping both rape and injury, compared to any other strategy of physical or verbal resistance.

I hope things are fine. I apologize for not getting back to you sooner after the MP Ball. We had our chance to have fun, and then the Brigade got hit with a lot of missions, the military never sleeps it seems.

At any rate, I have attached some photos from the evening, especially some that show the Soldiers enjoying the free beer! I had numerous comments on the thoughtful gesture of free beer and the Soldiers loved it. They are very thankful!

I’m going to need a small favor from those of you who contributed to the Beer of the Ball....could you please e-mail me your screen name with a mailing address ( if you are comfortable with that! )?

Please, please will someone do something about the Hands On Children’s Museum? That name is just not right! Even with the correct apostrophe “s,” the name sounds horrible and could only be loved by fondlers, Romans, or French government officials.
Where is the board of directors on this public relations gaffe?
Nonprofits attract volunteers, who are out to enhance resumes, street cred, and receive pats on the rear ends, but ‘HELLO,’ is anyone home? Take five minutes to come up with an appropriate name.
We are used to being scammed and plundered for large amounts of public funds. Nine million dollars for a new museum for children (hint, hint) building are beyond graft and will never produce an appropriate return on investment. That said, before a new sign goes up on the building and a petting zoo wants to share space, please change the name.

double standards have their privileges

The Obama administration invoked the controversial “state secrets” privilege again on Friday, arguing that if U.S. District Judge Vaughn Walker were to permit a legal case against the government to proceed, he would be putting national security at risk.

Attorney General Eric Holder said in a statement about the case, Shubert et. al v. Obama, that “there is no way for this case to move forward without jeopardizing ongoing intelligence activities that we rely upon to protect the safety of the American people.”

The case is a class action suit brought by four Brooklynites alleging that the Bush administration engaged in wholesale dragnet surveillance of ordinary Americans in which they were unjustly caught because they regularly made phone calls and sent emails to individuals outside the U.S., specifically in the United Kingdom, France, Italy, Egypt, the Netherlands, and Norway.

Obama administration officials argued that even addressing or attempting to refute the plaintiffs’ claim would require the administration “to disclose intelligence sources and methods, or the lack thereof.”

Holder said he was invoking the privilege despite having outlined new policies and procedures last month containing new internal and external checks and balances for the Justice Department to follow before invoking the privilege…

Toddlers who turn their noses up at spicy food from overseas could be branded racists by a [UK] Government-sponsored agency.
The National Children’s Bureau, which receives £12 million a year, mainly from Government funded organisations, has issued guidance to play leaders and nursery teachers advising them to be alert for racist incidents among youngsters in their care. This could include a child of as young as three who says “yuk” in response to being served unfamiliar foreign food. ...

we’re waiting

Oct. 21

Sen. John Kerry says President Barack Obama should wait until after the new Afghanistan presidential election is conducted before making his decision for the war.

Kerry met with Obama at the White House Wednesday, just hours after returning from Afghanistan, where he played a crucial role in persuading President Hamid Karzai to accept a run-off vote after a fraud-plagued election. The new vote is set for Nov. 7.

The Massachusetts Democrat told it wouldn’t make “common sense” for Obama to determine whether more U.S. troops should go to Afghanistan without knowing the election results. He said, “You really want to know that this has worked and you want to know what’s coming out of it.”

image

Oct. 31

President Hamid Karzai’s challenger plans to call for a boycott of next weekend’s runoff election in an attempt to force the vote’s postponement until spring, his campaign manager said — a move that would dim U.S. hopes for a stable Afghan government for months.

Republican Dede Scozzafava has suspended her bid in next Tuesday’s NY 23 special election, a huge development that dramatically shakes up the race. She did not endorse either of her two opponents—Conservative party candidate Doug Hoffman or Democrat Bill Owens.

The decision to suspend her campaign is a boost for Hoffman, who already had the support of 50 percent of GOP voters, according to a newly-released Siena poll, and is now well-positioned to win over the 25 percent of Republicans who had been sticking with Scozzafava.

Scozzafava has “probably made her last campaign appearance between now and Election Day,” spokesman Matt Burns told POLITICO. “She’s releasing her support to the two other candidates.”
