Aye that AWM....Kitty Genovese still pops to mind ocassionally as the most horrid example of “See Nothing, Hear Nothing, don’t want to get involved” INHUMANITY that I have ever learned.

One of the few things, besides that “Gemeinshaft v Gesellshaft” stuff that I still remember from Sociology 101.

An absolutelyy horrible affair.

People...do something. Or I won’t for you. Yeah, I probably will...but JFC this is depressing. As if I wasn’t Melancholy enough tonite.......

Sorry....I go now.

“I saw him, but that’s what we have cops for, right?”

“I thought it was some kind of publicity stunt.”

“Why didn’t he call 911?”

“That’s not my job. I just live here.”

“I’d have called it in, but I would’ve had to pay roaming charges.”

“It’s not my problem. It’s the government’s problem.”

It never occurs to them that that’s WHY it’s a bad area.

The poor guy had to see all those people walking by him.

You know I have to admit, I used to drive home and I saw this one guy at the bus stop each day, he stood out, long white beard.  One day I was driving home in the far lane and as I looked over between some cars as they passed, I couldn’t tell but I thought I saw him lying on the ground with no one around him.  I wasn’t sure what it was, but I figured it can’t be him, the same people are at the bus stop everyday, the bus stops by regularly, somebody would call for help if it was a body there.
I never saw the guy again.

I always felt bad about not making a Uturn.
But I can’t believe the regulars at the bus stop didn’t help. (maybe they tried?) People don’t talk to people they are standing next to anymore.

I read it once but have never found it again it was a much better detailed version of how history portrays a repetitive phenomenon . . .
enslavement-revolt-freedom-apathy-enslavement.
we are in the apathy stage, enslavement will happen in our life time.

mojo nailed it.

Yeah, build a little memorial of flowers and candles, maybe that will help you feel better.

I will say a prayer for his soul, and for that of those that watched him die.

I apologize, I didn’t read that it was his family that set up the memorial.  I was a little upset.

So typical.

Another problem is, will the cops show up or no?  That poor man was going to end up dead, one way or another...through neglect or incompetence.

So horrific.

Kitty Genovese is the reason why, at age 17, I decided (very deliberately) that I would become “The Kind of Person Who Has a Gun.”

If you’re not going to be the kind of person who puts their fingers in their ears when a dying neighbor cries for help, you need to be the kind of person who can deal with the consequences of Being Involved.

So I don’t expect your average incompetent mole to get up out of their burrow, just stay the Hell out of the way of those who do.

But the fact that they didn’t even notify the police or call an ambulance should be something that haunts them for a long, long time.
