I’ll go mirror your entire post on Mr. Completely, if that’ll help a bit.

Thank you Mr. Completely! This one should be so easy with just a few of us big mouths!

Hey, we can’t let the good ones stay. E-mailing now.

A lesson in why it pays better to be illegal. Dumb ass bureaucraps, crooked politicians. Hope this email effort goes better than the attempt to get the Congress to cut pork barrel spending to pay for disaster relief.

Thanks for highlighting the story- first heard of Walt fromKim du Toit’s Adam and Walter fund (Adam was later killed in Iraq) and later from Michael Yon’s excellent work.

Disappointing to hear that a member of the military is being treated so shabbily.

Please do keep us updated on your work- particularly any fund set up to help him- I for one will donate and set up a link on my blog.

Good job.

Been there, wrote that letter. See below:

Representative Adam Smith
227 Cannon House Office Bldg
Washington, DC
20515

Honorable Sir:  October 30, 2005

I am writing to you as an honorably retired Air Force officer because I know that you hold the welfare of active and retired service people very highly.

This matter concerns Sergeant Walter Gaya, who was recently wounded in Iraq while serving in the US Army. I have been following the exploits of Sergeant Gaya, and his now deceased partner, Sgt Adam Plumondore, since they trained for and shipped out for their mission with the 1/24 Infantry Battalion, 25 Infantry Division, which served in the Mosul, Iraq area.

After following their training and contributing to buy them additional personal equipment, I was saddened to learn later of the death of Sgt. Plumondore, who is a resident of my hometown, Gresham, OR. I attended his Memorial Service at Ft. Lewis and again here in Gresham, and met with his family.

As a Vietnam War veteran, I knew that direct ground combat touches everyone, but I was saddened again when I learned that Sgt. Gaya had been wounded in Mosul. I hadn’t known that Sgt. Gaya was awaiting naturalization to be a US citizen.

Now I find out that Sgt. Gaya missed his naturalization ceremony in Iraq, because he was under medical treatment for his battle wounds at the time. I have also learned that Sgt. Gaya’s immigration papers will expire soon, and that the government hasn’t offered him either any renewal of those papers, or a new naturalization ceremony appointment, which his is obviously qualified for.

This has all the markings of an unfortunate bureaucratic communications failure, but I know that you have the ability to sort this out and see that justice is done for Sgt. Gaya.

I thank YOU for your service to the military via your Congressional assignment, and I thank you again, in advance, for your service to Sgt. Gaya.

George R. Schneider, Major, USAFR, Retired

We will KisP those moonbats at INS.

comment by TomR  on  10/30  at  12:25 PM

Oddly enough, I have a little experience with this sort of thing.

Here’s a suggestion: don’t concentrate all your efforts on one, solitary congressman. Write to your senators, your own personal congresspeople, the head of the regional Immigration office, the head of regional Homeland Security, the head of national Homeland Security Vice-President Cheney, and President Bush. And don’t just send e-mails-send real letters on decent letterhead, too.

As any good fisherman will tell you, the wider your net, the bigger your catch.

(note to Sondra: I broke my silence only because this one’s so important. Kiss, kiss!)

I read over on the forums at the Gun Guy’s place from a moderator that Adam’s issue has been resolved.  Do we have any confirmation on that?

comment by Howard  on  10/31  at  10:43 AM

I met Walter when he was instructing at the 2004 Boomershoot. Of course, I met Adam at the same time. If there is anything I can do, let me know.

comment by Ry Jones  on  10/31  at  10:44 AM

Howard....any link for that??? I have sent an e-mail to Mr Yon who is in contact with Mr Gaya....as well as a contact at FT Lewis.
I’ll update as I get any information!

comment by SondraK  on  10/31  at  11:13 AM

I checked out the NoR forum and they do indeed say that Gaya had a swearing in ceremony “a few weeks ago”. A poster there asked for details but as yet there has been no reply/confirmation. The ABC news article is dated 29th October so it seems unlikely that the information is that out of date. I am contacting ABC news and AP by email to see if they can shed any light on the matter. If/when I hear back, I’ll post the information here.

Thank you! Still waiting here!!!

Upside: I sure hope so! Now let’s get on with the camera:)

comment by SondraK  on  10/31  at  12:24 PM

all vets should get automatic citizenship.

comment by jummy  on  10/31  at  07:36 PM

Great to see the citizenship issue sorted out. Agree with jummy that this should be automatic for those who serve. They do so much more than most of us - I am a citizen through good fortune, not my own doing, but I do appreciate it!
As for the camera, perhaps I missed what we are/should be doing. I will gladly contribute - just need to know where/how.
Thanks for following this through.

comment by JCK  on  10/31  at  08:41 PM

JCK...I hope to have more info tomorrow. Mr. Yon and a connect of my Cousin Joe’s at FT. Lewis are following up where I can’t:)
I need to know some specifics so we can get him what he wants.
THANK YOU!!!

I sure am proud of our SondraK and the conservative blogger community that mobilized so quickly to attack this wrong. Congrats Sondra.

comment by TomR  on  10/31  at  11:50 PM

Please do post on whatever Sgt. Gaya needs- I’ll gladly do what I can to spread the word.

comment by Jay.Mac  on  11/01  at  03:24 AM

YaY!  Let’s get him that camera!

I agree that Vets should get automatic citizenship.  They come here, put their lives on the line for a dream and an idea that is America.  I’d like to take the moonbats who don’t appreciate what they have and boot them just to make room.

MCPO Airdale

I wrote to Senator Santorum yesterday. . .plagerized liberally from the Major. Thank you sir. Find out this a.m. that, hopefully, all has been squared away.

Naturalization was a major problem for Sailors during my active duty. It took a lot of effort on part of senior leadership, working with the then INS, to streamline the process. Believe it or not, it is much easier now than 5 years ago.

comment by MCPO Airdale  on  11/01  at  07:25 AM

I’m with Step. If the KisP family is going to help this soldier replace his camera, I want to contribute.

comment by TomR  on  11/01  at  07:41 AM

Oh yeah, he will need a Sondra thong for the camera strap!

comment by TomR  on  11/01  at  07:42 AM

Thong’s on me! HAAAAAA!

comment by Moonbatologist Claire  on  11/01  at  10:52 AM

Now we need to get a good sized crowd to the ceremony to let him know we appreciate his service and sacrifice, and to welcome him as an American.

I’m kinda working on this, but I need help on it.....
