Stick a “Gun Free Zone” sign in tinpot’s front yard one fine night.
Once Illinois pushes this through, the rest of the US will follow shortly, and freedom of speech will be right behind it.
The true Americans are helpless against this. We have no leaders on national or even local levels who can organize any form of resistance (legal or not).
Maybe I’d have a sign on my door informing everyone that I’m a licensed gun owner--- and a big bumper sticker-- the difference is I would choose to do that--
It’s not even so much that I’m worried about them knowing who I am, as a function of personal safety. I mean really, it’s saying “yeah, this guy’s armed.” The people who should be more afraid are the ones who AREN’T on the list, since they’re being advertised as easy targets.
What bothers me is the air of intimidation about it. “If you do this, we’re gonna tell everyone.” It’s got the feel of the government trying to bully people into doing what they can’t force them to do legally, avoid buying a gun or be put on “A LIST”.
People distrust government “lists,” and with good reason. If the government started compiling, much less making public, lists of - oh, let’s pick a group dear to the left - let’s say closeted homosexuals in a given area, then not only the left but a majority of the populace would go absolutely apeshit. And they should. Because, as they would correctly argue, it’s NOBODY’S GODDAMN BUSINESS.
Ah, the intricacies of politics in Outer Madiganistan…
So basically they want the criminals to know what they will be facing when they try and break into a house?? Lord knows, Bobby the burglar should know that you might have a 45 aimed at him as he roams through your house..???
On top of all this crap, we know damn well that the list will have special rules that give certain individuals an exemption from being on the list.
Get back to the same old same old. It’s about liberals trying to destroy the freedoms of the country, and endangering conservatives at the same time.
No objection, provided they also publish a list of all the criminals who have been known to use a gun in their activities, along with their home addresses and their mug shots.
^ This. And I also better never hear the fucking ACLU bitch about sex offender lists being a violation of anyone’s civil rights.
gun control —> control + corruption
You want your rights? Say pretty please ... and bring a receipt for your campaign contributions.
1. Gun thieves will know where to go (armed).
2. Burglars will know where to go (unarmed).
3. Previously unarmed people will want permits so as not to be on list #2.
Yep, cue LUC (law of unintended consequences).
Even more importantly, information collected/held by the gov’t as a requirement for exercising your rights should never be considered “public records.”
Uhm, how does IL handle birth certificates and law licenses?
Just sayin’.
So, would these people be in favor of allowing everyone access to driver licenses and vehicle registrations?
So this is somehow different from say forcing a certain group of people to wear a Star of David on their clothes. And they wonder why we compare them to Nazi`s.
How about a list of doctors that have or have not performed abortions? Or, maybe a list of women who’ve had abortions? Think the libs would object to those?
OMG… I hope those politicians and their bodyguards and immediate family have all of their info published address phone numbers exst.. I am so tired of the elitist playing Marie Antoinette, It will not just be in Illinois it will spread all over too. I think it is so when they start up the commie machine they will have a easier time sinding their jackboots door to door.
A good portion of my collection of firearms came from Pops, who bought them in Texas hock shops all through the 50’s and 60’s. Brung ‘em all to Californee when we followed the Joads out (that’s a joke, btw) and they’ve never even been smelled by anything like a gun registrar.
I like to refer to it as my “cold piece” assortment, but SWMBO raises loud objections.
Real reason for police refusal:
List contains the names and addresses of every retired cop in IL.
What a horrendous invasion of privacy!
if they did that in Texas....
*snort.....
MOST folks assume you are armed out here!
apo........
And I also better never hear the fucking ACLU bitch about sex offender lists being a violation of anyone’s civil rights.
*clap*clap*clap!
Anything you have to register or license with the government is not yours.
You’re only paying for the upkeep and storage until they decide to take it.
As far as making the list public, I would love it if I were a criminal. It would be useful to know this before burglarizing someone.
Kristopher is right, but it also contains the names and address of every active duty cop—They have to have FOID cards, too. This will never happen.
Thug 1: “Hey, we need a gun or two for our upcoming heist.”
Thug 2: “No sweat. I got a list of places we can steal some.”
I’m sure everyone on the Porch is already on one list or another.
That, MikeG… is no lie!
MikeG, you are so correct. We can’t hide if we wanted to, all of us (normal every day people) are tracked and listed and cross referenced daily. The damn grocery store knows your buying habits better than you do.
So, having said/mumbled that, why can’t they find and deport illegals? Bet if you didn’t pay your Visa bill they would run your ass down in a minute.
I know I’m on lists. Too many background checks (NRC, NSA, FBI and SBI) and not to mention holding NRA long range High Master classification card. You know the SS know where every dude or dudete like me are located when potus comes anywhere near.
And my name and address was printed in the local fish wrapper when my first concealed carry permit was issued. That pissed me off, but the county said they were pubic records and the paper could print what it wanted to. The editor got enough negative feed back on the decision to print that they stopped it, guess they figured it might hurt the already dropping sales of the liberal rag.
Have a nice day!
National Rifle Association spokesman Andrew Arulanandam said his group would do “whatever we can” to stop the attorney general decision from being enforced.
Right.. Lisa needs to have an “accident”
Understand that the State of Illinois does not have a gun registry. You can’t register guns with the State. It does not maintain a list of gun owners or the guns they own.
What they do have is a requirement that anyone who owns a gun, uses a gun or buys guns or ammunition have a Firearms Owners ID card (FOID card). So if you go hunting with a friend you should have an FOID card so that if the cops happen upon your hunting party they know that you have no felony convictions or protection orders out against you and are thus not barred from possessing a gun.
The FOID card says you have done nothing to cause the State to use due process of law to prevent you from buying or owning a gun or ammunition. It does NOT say that you actually DO own a gun - or, if you do, how many and of what kind.
You all are on Atty. General Lisa Madigan’s case. Her job is to enforce the law. I think it’s more productive to ask 1) why does the law permit people to have this information, and 2) what does the AP intend to do with that information?
