Mother Fuckers.
5 minutes alone.
I want to think this is some brain washed kid that didn’t know any better, but I am not sure.
Not that it makes a difference.
Nyet, halt, cease fire. False alarm. It appears the defacing was actually a mistake made by the cleaning crew. More on this in a moment.
Seriously, wait for steppes to post on this, she has the details on this. It was an accident.
Steppes, please disregard your email.
Who ever did that should be tared and feathered on national television.
If it was an accident, why wasn’t it immediately cleaned up and repaired? If it was an accident, whoever is in charge should have not only set the clean up in motion before anyone had a chance to see and report it, but also should have issued a statement about it and assured the public it would be taken care of… and also should have issued an apology to the 58,195 people inscribed on the wall, their families and friends.
I’m not saying it wasn’t accident. Nor am I suggesting that accidents aren’t forgivable. But if it was an accident, it was made worse by inaction when it could have been made right instead.
Hey Folks,
Since it seems that there are variations of this story, neither of which can be confirmed, before we point fingers and condemn, I think it should be verfied whether it is vandalism or not.
The reason why I say this, fellow KiSPERS, is that the left habitually jumps on unverified news/stories, without properly vetting it (think AP), and publishes it as fact.
Personally, I think those of us on the right are of a higher calibre, and as such should ‘trust, but verify’ before we jump on the band wagon.
That being said, if it is defacement, then let loose the dogs of war, and decry the injustice towards our venerated war dead with passion!
With damage to stone it’s not like you just wipe it with a cloth and all is right. It has to be done very carefully if it can be done at all. A replacement may be necessary.
Well said Gothguy, however, when all the facts are in, if it does prove to be an intentional defacement, might I suggest the brig at Norfolk as a place of detention? Back in the day that’s where we sent the sex offenders. Freaks, yes. But patriotic freaks. Just sayin…
Well I hope it was just a accident, but I do not see how it could be.
embycil - Same crowd at the Norfolk brig now, along with Jose Padilla for some time.
When I was a whitehat, I strongly disliked dress inspections and manning the rail and other nautical customs and traditions which didn’t really seem to accomplish anything meaningful.
As I got older, though, I finally began to understand the fundamental, integral, irreplaceable value in customs and rituals and traditions passed down through generations to the present. It’s all a distillation of what works, what makes a culture tick, what keeps a society intact, what makes a country proud and prosperous.
When mankind first became aware that he was in fact aware, he began to sense a larger purpose to things, the presence of a greater-than-human spirit, the influence of an intelligence more profound than what his own mind could comprehend.
He dealt with his fears by creating myths, his questions by assigning powers to gods, his insecurities by developing skills to ward off the beasts and the cold and the dark. As he learned more about his world, he realized that he could control certain things once considered the provinces of minor deities, so he did away with those.
With agriculture came fixed communities, written laws, central governments, and man became dependent upon other men, tribal activities, special groups. Life became more complex, and technology assumed greater importance. To ensure that each successive generation wouldn’t have to rediscover fire or reinvent the wheel, man passed along the accumulated skills and wisdom from the elders to the young.
Certain skills became highly evolved and required total dedication; not everyone had the time or the ability to learn them all. Often a particular skill descended through several generations with only the what or the how being preserved, not the why. Such activities became ritual, their origins lost or obscure.
Customs, too, continued with the generations; many became simply habit, accepted as the common-sense approach to making life more bearable for all. The dead were buried or burned in ceremonies because leaving a corpse lying around was not a good idea. Crops were planted at specified times under time-honored conditions because they grew better that way. Some animals were raised as beasts of burden and others for food because experience had demonstrated that way worked best.
Inherited, established, customary patterns of thought, action, or behavior made life better for the entire community. Information, beliefs, and customs were transmitted by word of mouth or by example from one generation to another, usually without written instruction. Successful communities tended to have formalized traditions, ceremonies, rituals, and customs to ensure continuity (key word here) in social attitudes, customs, and institutions.
Memorials to the defenders of the crops, to the leaders of the group, to the fallen, the sacrificed, the heroes were a major feature of societies’ customs and traditions. And when tribes or groups or cities lost touch with the behaviors which brought them success and happiness, they tended to collapse and disappear, either through internal dissolution or pressure from other, more vigorous and stable communities.
When a culture no longer can count on its religion for solace and hope, when its knowledge base becomes diluted or corrupt and no longer reliable, when it forgets the beliefs and ethics which gave it courage and stability, and when it stops honoring those who defended it and sacrificed themselves for the greater good, it is no longer a culture but merely a number of individuals living in close proximity but having nothing in common with each other.
And I’m afraid that’s where we’re headed, mes amis. Language – no longer common. Borders – no longer meaningful. Religion – no longer allowed. Traditions – no longer politically correct. As I’ve blogmented before, I weep for my grandchildren. They no longer have the certainty my generation enjoyed of looking forward to better conditions than the previous one had.
We NEED traditions if we are to survive. We NEED customs if we are to remain American. We NEED rituals if our life is to have any substance. We NEED statues and memorials if we expect the people who will fund our Social Security to have any connection with the principles that made what it became before PC and Socialism began eroding away at its base.
O.K. I’m getting dangerously close to the 5K limit, so . . . rant off.
Stepperg: I don’t know what to believe either. I find it very plausible that the “accident” story may have been cooked up to prevent what they all know is coming.
Vandalism of monuments such as this cannot be tolerated, and I dare say that in such an event that the perpetrators of the crime should be dealt with by “we the people” not “we the government”.
There is no such thing as a fair trial anymore anyway, as only the criminals get away free, so it’s not like it’s a violation of constitutional rights to track down vandals and execute them.
I will wait and see what comes of this. It could have been a leak from a cleaning cart, do they use such things at the Wall? I don’t know.
But I do know this, for a fact:
THE VIETNAM MEMORIAL IN ANDOVER WAS MOST CERTAINLY VANDALIZED AND DEFACED BY ANTI-WAR ASSHOLES:
Many veterans in town were disappointed to learn last week that someone had vandalized the town’s Vietnam Veterans Memorial, requiring the 15-month-old memorial to be sandblasted Wednesday.
The lyrics of a 1970s protest song and a reference to Iraq were scrawled on the monument in the Park. “War, what is it good for, absolutely nothin’,” was written in red marker along with a peace sign.
Near the base of the memorial where the phrase “our cause is just” is etched, a vandal wrote “just like in Iraq.”
The markings were made with some kind of felt marker, which soaked into the stone, Burke said yesterday.
Damn, ET, I was gonna cut back on drinking this week.
ON the plus side, left tards are good at running, but lousy at dodging the bullet. If it was vandalism, send the loser(s) to Anbar province. Before releasing them on the street, get him/her/them very drunk. Then release wearing tshirts with cartoons mocking Mohammed the pedophile on the back.
2 in one week?
Why am I not buying the “accident” scenario?
Good heavens, heads are gonna roll!
I doubt the accident story, unless the Park Service uses something motor driven or hydraulic (a riding vacuum or sweeper) along the pavement.
If not an accident, The coward who did it should be ashamed.
caned ala Singapore and then made to clean it up and pay damages.
I’ve been steamed all day ever since the Code Pink Pigs interupted the Petraeus hearing. I hope the Capitol Police find the Democrat staffer scumbag who gave them tickets and penalize them. It would be very interesting to see the names of the Members who backed that cheezy ploy made widely public.
It is imperative that we defend Our Country, Our Society, Our Heritage, Our Culture, Our Way of Life, for if we do not, I fear we will as a society, go the way of the Roman Empire, and other great nations.
If we allow a small portion (and the libtards are) to dictate policy to the American Public and the American government, and not keep up a watchful eye on them, then everything we hold near and dear to our hearts will vanish...now is not the time to be complacent, but now is the time to speak up, and let our voices be heard, loud and clear.
For far to long, we, as conservatives, have allowed the leftists to be the main, vocal voice in this country, in the belief that the rest of society would merely reject the tired ideas of the 1960s hippy crowd, since they had heard that tired rhetoric before.
What we failed in realizing, was that we had a new generation growing up in our ‘institutions of higher learning’ that had no idea what the 1960s was really about, who Castro, Che, et. al., were really about, and that the very same hippies have taken control of those said institutions. Yes, some of us realized it, but the vast majority of society chose to remain blissfully ignorant of that fact, relying on the NEA, university regents, local school boards, and teachers, to guide and instruct our youth.
Because of this insidious infringement of parental rights (which many parents gleefully allowed to happen) , our children have NOT been educated, but indoctrinated, and as we go about our daily lives, running errands and such, we see it everyday.
And it is time to make this insanity stop!
C’mon you POS, do it in front of me. Burn a flag, piss on a monument. I’ll be famous, a rallying point for the rebirth of patriotism in this country. I’ll spread the words of our forefathers from coast to coast at the top of my lungs with pride in every venue that will allow me to speak! And you, dear pisser or defacer will be in the hospital, watching in horror at what you have created. Ha! I am so tired of us being the nice guys.
MitchM & Steppes, thanks for your info & the heads up about the situation.
Like LindaSOG said, I’m going to wait for more & better info.
Gothguy, thanks for your comments @ 6:45PM. Your absolutely right & I’m with you 100%.
Also, thanks for your comment @ 8:36PM.
I’ve thought about this topic a lot, but you stated it in a clear, concise way that’s most valuable.
ET, thank for your screed. You have put powerful words, thoughts, concepts & historical import to my patriotic feelings that I would have difficulty explaining. With your permission I’d like to add your comments to my documents about what patriotic americans are up against in todays world.
I’d like all you KisPers to know that I deeply appreciate your comments. I don’t feel as alone in my thoughts about our current situation as I have for many years.
I’m with y’all—waiting and seeking the facts, all the facts, and nuttin’ but the facts is the best course. It’s what we grown-ups do. Then, if necessary, we can find 1] the culprit and clean The Wall with its tongue, 2] help support the Park Service to clean The Wall from the accident—as the facts support.
SBG—sure. Anything I post here or on GOC or C & S or Linda’s place or anywhere else is up for grabs, if you can strip away the flower petals and leaf litter and gather the meaty bits before the squirrels carry ‘em off.
