Elsewhere, it has been noted that she has been out of work for at least twelve of those years. So her bills are being paid, have been for years, whether private or government programs or combination.

That was the start of my incredible and impeccable credit rating that we hold to this day.

Back when me and JR were just dating he had a fainting spell that scared the crap out of me. Emergency folks responded and we decided to have him checked out at the hospital....I had him go in an ambulance because we just didn’t know what was wrong.
A few hours and a bunch of tests concluded that he had simply gotten dehydrated...they gave him a couple bags of saline and let him go.
We had no insurance and he was just starting out in his career so we really didn’t have too good of jobs at the time.

I don’t remember how much the ambulance and the hospital bill was but we paid about $50 a month for a few years until it was paid off.

11B40—that’s the way I remember things.  You saved and scrimped, hopefully for a retirement nest egg, but also against the chance that something catastrophic hit you.  Back in the day, YOU were responsible for your bills, not society.  You might try for a loan to tide you over in an emergency, or you could try tapping family for a loan, but ultimately you were still expected to pay your way through life.

Would it be too gauche to print out some IHOP coupons and pass them out at this gathering?

BTW, ^ that’s what got the majority of the people losing their homes in this “mortgage crisis” crap into this mess…

What was involved back then was rather inconsequential.  They were going through the motions anyway.

What’s at stake today is much more serious—a substantive change to the US economy and ultimately, our political freedom.  If they can’t vote on something this fundamentally massive, then they shouldn’t rely on smoke and mirrors.  This requires a straight up-or-down vote, not smoke and mirrors. It just shows they haven’t the courage to ask for a real vote.

Forgive my cerebral density, but why shouldn’t she lose her house? 

This is more of the logic that is helping to bankrupt this country via the housing “crisis”.  The equity that one has in real property is an asset that can and should be used to pay her medical bills as much as possible.  Why should other people and organizations rescue her from the consequences of her own (mis)behavior.  And if her equity is to be protected, why not everyone else’s assets, be they stocks, bonds, bank accounts or businesses?

I’ll go with Doug, and I’ll bring minced meat and wear a Israeli hat.

Very sorry she’s had cancer for the last 16 years, but why should I pay for her? She’s nothing to me.

This is an outrage, I tell you!  An OUTRAGE!  Verily, up till now these tales of mishap and tragedy under the current diabolical health care system have been tried and true.

If this keeps up I may loose confidence in this current administration to tell the truth.  I’m fortunate to be able to continue my trust in the political machine to run health care as well Medicare, Social Security, and the post office.
