PETA has taken a stand against one of the most popular tourist attractions in Seattle - the fish market at the Pike Place Market that tosses [ DEAD ] salmon.
PETA heard that the American Veterinary Medical Association planned a Pike Place Fish Market demonstration at next month’s convention at the convention center.
PETA sent a letter to the association saying people who care about animals are appalled fish would be treated as toys. A spokeswoman for PETA in Norfolk, Va., Lindsay Rajt, says veterinarians should show compassion.

PETA hasn’t heard from the veterinarians....

can we call it a holy war NOW???

A Muslim convert charged with fatally shooting an American soldier at a military recruiting center said Tuesday that he doesn’t consider the killing a murder because U.S. military action in the Middle East made the killing justified.

“I do feel I’m not guilty,” Abdulhakim Muhammad told The Associated Press in a collect call from the Pulaski County jail. “I don’t think it was murder, because murder is when a person kills another person without justified reason.”

Pvt. William Andrew Long, 23, of Conway had just completed basic training and was volunteering at the west Little Rock recruiting office before starting an assignment in South Korea. He was shot dead June 1 while smoking a cigarette outside the building, and a fellow soldier, Pvt. Quinton I. Ezeagwula, 18, of Jacksonville was wounded.

“Yes, I did tell the police upon my arrest that this was an act of retaliation, and not a reaction on the soldiers personally,” Muhammad said. He called it ”a act, for the sake of God, for the sake of Allah, the Lord of all the world, and also a retaliation on U.S. military.”

In the interview, Muhammad also disputed his lawyer’s claim that he had been “radicalized” in a Yemeni prison and said fellow prisoners that some call terrorists were actually “very good Muslim brothers.”

The Age of Enlightenment produced many fruitful ideas. Perhaps the sweetest notion was the belief that society should help its members achieve a full life in the pursuit of happiness, with liberty and tolerance for all.

Being human, this noble vision was flawed by the shadow realities of slavery, the inequalities of various depressions, and occasional flirting with intolerance — McCarthyism, zenophobias, nationalism, etc.

But a vibrant democracy has nothing to fear from facing into its own shortcomings. We waged various wars on poverty, created new deals to help all the citizens (e.g. Social Security, Medicare, etc.) and routinely brought the lynch mob leaders to trial.

But at the dawn of the 21st century an American axis of evil took the statue of Liberty into a dark alley and assaulted her.

There Rumsfeld, Cheney, and Gonzales had their way with her Bill of Rights. They created the cult of shock and awe and torture, borrowing freely from fascists, brain washers and grand inquisitors.

The evil-doers’ stupendous egos blind them to their horrific legacy. They have risked our ideals, our purpose, and our promise to further their private fortunes and extremist ideologies.

Are there no heroes who will stand for truth, justice and the American way?

Will no one arrest them and bring them to trial?

tonight’s KisP fun facts

Although far better known as a hoops man, President Obama seems to be morphing into a golf nut these days. He’s hit the course five times since late April—rushing out to the links on Sunday afternoon just 90 minutes after returning to the White House from his overseas trip. The wife and kids were still back in Paris; no time like the present to get in nine holes.

And so Obama joins a long, storied and sometimes comic tradition: He is the 15th of the past 18 presidents to play golf.

What’s the deal? Why golf?

The attraction would seem simple. It’s a great escape; the game demands such attention that nothing else matters. It’s time spent with friends, an unhurried afternoon in loose clothing (shorts seem to be Obama’s preference). Yet nothing is without deeper meaning where the presidency is concerned. The golfer in chief’s approach to the game is subject to analysis in psychological and political contexts.

To some, Obama’s frequent outings reflect a cool self-confidence. “Given all the things that are going on in the world and with the economy,” says sports psychologist Bob Rotella, “you’d think he wouldn’t be caught anywhere near the golf course . . . To some degree it says: ’I’m not going to worry.............

“I remember when de Mello, who was at the U.N., got killed in Baghdad as a result of these murderers taking this good man’s life,” he said. “I was playing golf—I think I was in central Texas—and they pulled me off the golf course and I said, ‘It’s just not worth it anymore to do.’”
--- President George W. Bush

Bush’s last round of golf was October 13, 2003.

President Barack Obama’s concrete head rested peacefully on an open-bed trailer outside Vino Vino wine bar on Guadalupe Street on Sunday evening. The 20-foot-tall sculpture of the president had just been hauled from Houston.

Its creator, 82-year-old artist David Adickes, is traveling with the 3˝-ton bust, and grinned as he looked at the head that was parked on the street.

“Most people just ogled it on the highway,” he said. “Only one guy gave us the finger.”..........

WWJDrive: update

San Diego County officials agreed Wednesday to rescind a cease-and-desist order issued to a pastor holding a small Bible study in his home. In a letter to the pastor, the county’s chief administrative officer apologized for the incident involving a code enforcement officer who issued the order after reportedly asking the pastor’s wife inappropriately probing questions about the study.

The letter informed Pastor David Jones and his legal counsel Dean Broyles, president of the Western Center for Law & Policy, an Alliance Defense Fund allied organization, that the order was wrongfully issued and that the county would conduct a thorough review of its assembly ordinances and code enforcement officer training.

“Christians should not be punished simply for holding a Bible study in their home, so we are very encouraged by the county’s response and their commitment to immediate corrective action,” said Broyles. “We look forward to working with the county to ensure that the clarification of its ordinances and training of its personnel are implemented promptly and efficiently so that all citizens of San Diego can be assured that their constitutional rights are protected, whether they’re holding Bible studies or hosting Boy Scout meetings.”

sacrificing for the next generation

..................Mr Obama was already flying home to Washington after doing the Paris sights with his family when Mrs Obama, Sasha, Malia and other members of the group were greeted at the Élysée Palace by the French President and Carla Bruni, his wife.

The two premičres dames were the stars of the informal lunch that included Mr Sarkozy’s three sons by two marriages and Ms Bruni’s eight-year-old son. Mr Sarkozy led a chorus of Happy Birthday to Sasha Obama, who turned 8 yesterday, and they toasted the occasion of Mother’s Day in France. Mrs Obama’s mother, her godmother and a cousin of the two girls joined them.

Mr Sarkozy was putting his best face on Mr Obama’s reluctance to spend more than the minimum time with him during a weekend of D-Day anniversary commemorations, even though they were staying only a few yards away from the palace, at the US ambassador’s residence.

The Obamas’ whirlwind tour included Notre Dame Cathedral, the Pompidou modern art centre and a romantic dinner together at a small restaurant, after a cruise on the Seine in a tourist boat. The Obamas dined with friends at La Fontaine de Mars, a small, rustic brasserie on the Left Bank near the Eiffel Tower. They sat in a private upstairs room. Jacques Boudon, owner of the restaurant, said: “He behaved just like an ordinary customer. He arrived, ordered, they paid the bill and left.”

A food taster from the Secret Service tested the food first. “It wasn’t very pleasant for the cooks at first, but the person was very nice and was relaxed, so it all went well,” said Gabriel de Carvalho, one of the waiters.

Parisians cheered the Obamas, travelling in a 30-vehicle motorcade, as police sealed off all the streets through which they moved. Mrs Obama and her daughters ended by shopping on the Left Bank and Champs Élysées and taking a trip to the Louvre......................

I have NO PROBLEM with our country owning and running a Auto Company, and my reasoning is sound:
*All the executives would be paid a generous living wage, certainly no higher then our presidents
*All R&D would be done in the USA
*All manufacturing would be done in the USA (INCLUDING PARTS)
*We would produce energy efficient models
*No cooperate profit needs to be made, Thus the price of the vehicles would be lower
*Govt. Made cars would be tax exempt
Now that said, any other Auto Manufacturer would be able to sell their product, based on free market capitalism.
The up side, higher employment, less expensive cars, cleaner enviroment.

God save us all.........

dick, not-quite-dead white guy said:

Whether in public or in “polite” company rare to hear someone use the “M” word when discussing the causes of this event and others before. Even GWB consistently called it the religion of peace when lots of evidence suggests that it isn’t now and never was a religion of peace. I and others here have opined that we should or might have to inter muslims in the US in order to be safe.
After thinking about this off and on for some time, I realize that I’d have a hard time looking a four year old kid in the eye and telling him he had to leave his home and go far away because of his father’s religion.  What has to happen is to find a way to separate the dogs from the wolves, to remove the fear of retribution from the innocent when they point out the guilty, to make loyalty to ones neighbors, community and nation a virtue again.  That has to happen by example, and that means people preaching “goddamn America” or “kill the infidel” from the pulpit need to feel consequences for their actions and get fired by their congregations, lose their tax exempt status, see their congregations drift away, and not get a multimillion dollar house as a retirement gift as Rev. Wright did.
And the only way that’s going to happen is by telling the truth, Political Correctness be damned.  The pious opinions floating around MSM and officialdom about “was it jihad or did he or just snap” reinforces my belief that we have no capacity to ask rigorous questions or speak obvious truths. Let’s not kid ourselves, some Muslims are killing us and many more want all westerners dead, but that is not the real killer. The real killer is Political Correctness. We won’t name the enemy, we won’t speak up when something is not right, all for fear of being branded mean, or being ostracized or losing our jobs.
For me now, the main issue is not whether Islam should be banned or its practitioners interned, but that there is no evaluation system at all for threatening or disloyal behavior. Maybe some muslims are good loyal citizens and others are not, but we cannot or will not establish criteria to evaluate this because there has been a wall thrown up around any actions that look suspicious to most Americans, and by merely declaring these actions to be of a religious or cultural nature, their practitioners (or perpetrators) get a pass to do most anything.
Methinks this will be swept under the rug as much as possible and the MSM will happily play along making the usual self-important pontifications about how stressed and oppressed he was as he faced deployment. I think the Army was more worried about being accused of discriminating against a Muslim than they were of a Muslim shooting up an Army base. It has been reported that some people witnessed displays of Hasan’s true belief.  Did any of these witnesses notify their superiors, or did they just decide it was someone else’s job for fear of being branded racist or some such and ending their military career? Did those superiors act? Or do nothing to get the next good efficiency report?  In the late 90’s, managers in my company above a certain pay grade got a 10% bonus for proper affirmative action and diversity behavior.  I doubt today’s military is any different. Was Hasan was picked to represent the Uniformed Services medical school in a recent security conference because he was an expert on security, or because the Army wanted to show off their token Muslim?.
It seems too me the logical thing would have been to arrange a discharge for Hasan, but that might look like discrimination against Muslims, and once he was discharged, the Army could not control him. They feared, and rightly so, that he would end up an articulate guest on some American Guilt talk show.  Compared to Walter Reed, Ft. Hood is farther away from publicity and I wonder if the Army did hear some complaints about his statements and sent him there for that reason?
PC is wrecking American competence, dividing our communities, getting troops killed with ridiculous Rules of Engagement, and I think it just got a bunch of good folks killed right here at home.

You can still get ammo, just do us all a favor and don’t buy “repacked chinese 40-year-old rusty stuff in russian packages” for a penny a piece.

Don’t look for small or big stores, generally, look for older ones. Wild Sports for example has all sorts of contracts with manufacturers, which is why they never ran out (though they “ration” sales) and prices aren’t too ridiculous.
