Uhm…

collection of weird

In testimony scheduled Thursday before the House Intelligence Committee, Director of National Intelligence James Clapper ... is expected to defend how the intelligence community tracked the revolts that have swept through two major American allies in the Arab world, toppling the leader of Tunisia and threatening the regime in Egypt…

Yeah—Helluva job, Clappy.

Here, Lady Diane Feinstein, Head of the Intelligence Committee, explains it all for you:

OR *clicky*clicky*

“It’s very real that we do not understand.”
I think that’s a fair statement, LadyDi.

Here’s another weird twist:

[Wael Ghonim, a Google executive] “Ghonim’s tears have moved millions and turned around the views of those who supported (Mubarak) staying,”

Google, again?  hm…

And the Headline of The Day:

Lt. Col. Cabangbang killed an Abu Sayyaf leader, southern Philippines on Tuesday

oops:  scooped: And the “Hello, YouTube” Moment of The Day:

From the U.S. Department of State‘s Arabic Media Hub comes news that America’s top diplomatic agency will be sharing America’s foreign policy goals with the Arab world in their native language. The move comes as DOS hopes to widen its audience amid growing unrest in the Middle East and growing favor for social media outlets such as Twitter.

Tweeting under the account “USAbilAraby,“ which means ”USA in Arabic,” the State Department’s first entry announced that Washington recognizes the “historic role” of social media in the Arab world. “We want to be in your conversation,” it said.

Breaking… Developing…

movement

Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak is expected to address his nation within hours following an announcement Thursday from a general to thousands of protesters in Cairo’s Tahrir Square that their demands would be met.

...The military announced that it was taking the “necessary measures to protect the nation and support the legitimate demands of the people.”

Egypt’s military announced on national television that it stepped in to “safeguard the country” and assured protesters that President Hosni Mubarak will meet their demands in the strongest indication yet that the longtime leader has lost power. In Washington, the CIA chief said there was a “strong likelihood” Mubarak will step down Thursday.

Vice President Omar Suleiman, named by Mr. Mubarak to undertake a dialogue with opposition groups, had warned Tuesday night that if the process he was supervising did not produce results, the military would step in to take administrative control in what he called a “coup.”

...television images on Al Jazeera showed the masses in Tahrir Square cheering the news of an impending shake-up, waving flags and chanting: “The Army and the people in one hand.”

What’re the odds that “hand” closes into a fist?

ToDaZeD BoNuS - Teh Stupid of the Day Week Ages:

NYT: But a report released Thursday by Human Rights Watch cast doubt on the military’s impartiality.

.

State TV says Egypt’s information minister has denied that President Hosni Mubarak will step down.

The Spider-Man musical on Broadway has a big-name cheerleader with a big megaphone — Glenn Beck.
The conservative commentator has seen the $65 million “Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark” twice, and he’s giving it glowing reviews both on the air and on his Twitter account.
“This is better than ‘Wicked!’” he raved Wednesday on “The Glenn Beck Program,” which has an estimated 6 million listeners.
Beck saw the show for the first time Saturday and returned Wednesday, when he gave it a standing ovation. He went backstage to meet director and co-story writer Julie Taymor and U2’s Bono and The Edge, who supplied the music.

The show was “even better tonight,” he tweeted Wednesday. “This show will rock.”...

I did not raise that tax, taxes

Yeah, but those weren’t tax taxes

There’s a nother word for this hoo boy…

...here’s the interesting thing: Obama’s tax cuts have been even bigger. The first of them, $238 billion in cuts for taxpayers and businesses, came as part of the stimulus package. The second portion, $721 billion worth, arrived in December, again as part of Congress’ bipartisan tax compromise. Subtract $54 billion in forthcoming stimulus-related tax hikes, and you’ve got a grand total of $905 billion in tax cuts. In other words, Obama has slashed one tax dollar for every dollar he’s spent on government programs...

*ding!*ding!*ding!*ding!*ding!* Sarah Palin’s stoopid

Translated by Palestinian Media Watch, book details group’s goal of global Islamic conquest.

One of the greatest beneficiaries of the unrest in Egypt has been the Muslim Brotherhood.

Banned but tolerated for decades by successive Egyptian regimes, the Islamist movement is now emerging as a central player in the country’s resurgent opposition.

On Tuesday, two Brotherhood representatives participated in an opposition delegation that met with Vice President Omar Suleiman for the first set of talks over implementing political reforms.

Pundits have portrayed the Brotherhood as uncompromising zealots or beneficent providers of social services that long-deprived Egyptians desperately need.

But a translation released Tuesday of a 1995 book by the movement’s fifth official leader sheds light on just how Egypt’s Brotherhood views itself and its mission. Jihad is the Way is the last of a five-volume work, The Laws of Da’wa by Mustafa Mashhur, who headed the Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt from 1996-2002.

The Jerusalem Post on Tuesday saw excerpts of the text, compiled by Palestinian Media Watch found Itamar Marcus and analyst Nan Jacques Zilberdik.

They detail the Brotherhood’s objectives of advancing the global conquest of Islam and reestablishing the Islamic Caliphate, the public and private duties of jihad and the struggle Muslims must wage against Israel.

The full text, translated by PMW, will be posted Wednesday on the organization’s website, Palwatch.org...

Sarah Palin, whose foreign policy knowledge has been framed by a proclamation that she can see Russia from her house, has come out to criticize President Obama’s handling of the Egyptian ordeal.

In a video aired Monday on the CBN Christian Network, Sarah Palin gives a rambling accusation, in which she claimed the leader in the White House was not revealing all that was known about who will be taking over for President Mubarak.  Palin intimates that somehow the White House knows when Mubarak will be leaving the country and who will be taking his place--but is being deceptive, by refusing to tell the American people.

“Nobody yet has explained to us. Surely they know, more than the rest of us know, who is going to take the place of Mubarak,” theorized Palin. “They know what’s going on and aren’t telling us.”

In a stammering and inarticulate message, Palin made the inappropriate characterization that Obama had somehow let his 3:00 a.m phone call, go to the answering machine.

How could Palin confuse a revolution in another country that poses no danger to the United States, as Obama’s 3:00 a.m. crisis phone call?...

not just evil but wrong

Having a tough time finding a conventional 100-watt light bulb?

That’s because California was allowed to jump the gun on next year’s nationwide phase-out of the standard incandescent bulb. Stores here can sell their stock of the 100-watt lights, but after that, they can sell only more energy-efficient bulbs equivalent to 100 watts.

In passing the Energy Independence and Security Act of 2007, Congress gave California permission to switch to the more power-stingy incandescent bulbs this year, while other states must start changing over next Jan. 1.

After combing the aisles of three different stores ...Target, Orchard Supply and my local hardware store… I finally gave up and ordered them online.

This is madness ...pure madness.
