When it comes to caliber, remember that you’re not shooting to kill but to stop an attack (heck you can kill with nail clippers). If you can’t hit eye sockets or heart with near-perfect reliability under fire while bullets are raining down on you and adrenaline is coursing through your veins (and you can’t), a big ol’ bullet disables better than a smaller one. It all boils down to how bulky/heavy a piece you want to tote around that day.

I’m sorry to learn about your cat dying. 18 years is a long time for a small animal. A long life, well lived, giving love and happiness to others is a proud achievement for man and beast alike. It is nothing to pity, but it doesn’t make the end easier for those who are left, does it?
My poor cat lived too long. His health had been gradually declining for years due to kidney failure but had gotten progressively worse over a span of months. We had finally decided to have him put down the next morning at the Vet’s office but he died that night. I still feel guilty knowing he suffered so long. It’s been years but I still get teary-eyed thinking about it.
