The Republican chairman appeared on TVOne’s “Washington Watch” this weekend, a new Sunday political talk show aimed at a black audience. The host, Roland Martin, asked Steele how Republicans could reach out to black voters. Steele responded by talking about issues such as education, small business, jobs and the economy, The rest is in a partial transcript:
MARTIN: But your candidates got to talk to them. One of the criticisms I’ve always had is Republicans—white Republicans—have been scared of black folks.
STEELE: You’re absolutely right…
GAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Go away scary black man. Please.

Attorney General Eric Holder has agreed to give a keynote speech next week to a Michigan group which includes the local branch of the Council on American-Islamic Relations even though the FBI has formally severed contacts with the controversial Muslim civil rights organization.
[...]
Former terrorism prosecutor Andrew McCarthy, a CAIR critic, said he was disappointed but not taken aback by the FBI’s parsing of its ban on “formal contacts” with the Muslim group.“I wish I could say I’m surprised but I’m not remotely surprised,” McCarthy said. “When [the FBI] said they cut off formal ties with them, whenever they say something like that you have to look very carefully at the way it’s worded… The last administration was guilty of it, this administration is guilty of it—they have determined it is more important to have what it can publicly hold out as ties to the Muslim community than it is to be careful about who you have the ties with.”
band in Germany

The German government has banned hard rock group Rammstein’s latest hit album from public display in stores because of its depictions of sado-masochism.
Officials were offended by the track “Ich tue Dir Weh” ("I Want to Hurt You"), which includes such lines as “Bites, kicks, heavy blows, nails, pincers, blunt saws - Tell me what you want,” as well as artwork showing guitarist Richard Kruspe with a masked, naked woman on his knees.
The album, “Liebe ist Fuer Alle Da” ("Love is For All") has been a big seller globally since its release a month ago via Universal Music. It hit No. 1 in Germany, Switzerland, Austria, Denmark, the Czech Republic, Finland and the Netherlands. It made No. 2 in France, and No. 3 in Sweden and Belgium. In the United States, it debuted at No. 13, a record for the band.
The German Federal Office for the Examination of Media Harmful to Young People in Bonn also criticized the single “Pussy,” stating that it incites listeners to engage in unprotected sexual intercourse despite the risk of AIDS. But the song was not officially part of the ruling.
The video for “Pussy” has also caused some commotion as it shows what appear to be members of the band participating in sex scenes, although sources close to the band insist that the band members were doubled.
Fleetwood Apt Evict Tenant-Activist of 9 Years, Emergency Protest Tuesday!
Submitted by olygdc on Mon, 11/09/2009 - 12:58am.
Jim Brown, a tenant at the Fleetwood Apartments, is being threatened with eviction for non-payment. His rental payments are subsidized by HUD, which stopped without his notification. In failing to provide notification and cause, the HUD is denying Jim an opportunity to respond and the opportunity to find housing. The General Defense Committee of Olympia, in working to defend tenants and workers across Thurston County, asks that the eviction process be halted until Jim has time to file an injunction and that HUD take responsibility for the non-payment and provide Jim with a reason for discontinuing his funding. A rally will take place Tuesday at 1:00 outside the Fleetwood Apartments. Please show Jim that we’ve got his back! Fleetwood Apartments is right across from Sylvester Park (next to Greyhound Station). He’s getting evicted on Thursday unless he is given a chance to file an injunction to stop it!
today’s honorary potential KisPer:
Instead of demanding someone else pay why doesn’t everyone get together and raise what he owes?
What fricken planet am I on?
Flags and flowers are shown in front of the apartment, upper right, where Army psychiatrist Maj. Nidal Malik Hasan lived outside of Fort Hood in Killeen, Texas, Monday, Nov. 9, 2009. Hasan is suspected of opening fire on fellow soldiers during a rampage that left 13 people dead on Thursday, Nov. 5, 2009.
RUSH: Okay, gotta hear this. One more Obama in his echoified address at the Brandenburg Gate today. He mentions John Kennedy. He mentions himself. He does not mention Ronaldus Magnus, the man who made this happen.
OBAMA (godlike reverb): Even as we celebrate these values, even as we mark this day, we know the work of freedom is never finished. In a Berlin under siege, President Kennedy said, “Freedom is indivisible, and when one man is enslaved, all are not free.” Few would have foreseen on that day that a united Germany would be led by a woman from Brandenburg or that their American ally would be led by a man of African descent. But human destiny is what human beings make of it.
RUSH: You had nothing to do with it! The fall of the Berlin Wall had nothing to do with somebody from Africa being elected president of the United States, or some woman from Brandenburg becoming the chancellor of Germany. It was not about that. They want to take all these events and say, “Oh, look at what happens when we all work together!” We didn’t all work together! The Soviets resisted it. Erich Honecker resisted it. The whole Soviet empire resisted it. They had no choice in the end. There was only one guy who… American liberals said it was silly to suggest we could ever defeat the Soviets. We had to stay friendly with them. One man—and one woman: Margaret Thatcher. How in hell you don’t mention her, either. But that’s Obama. Everything is about him.
Hey, didn’t he want to do his 2008 sermon thing at the Brandenburg Gate and they wouldn’t let him? So I guess there’s that.
Thanks to $25 million in recovery money, America’s poorest city now has hippos.
The landmark 2002 Municipal Rehabilitation and Economic Recovery Act that put Camden under state control set aside $175 million for dozens of city projects. And none was larger, or more emblematic, than the $25 million expansion of the 10-year-old, state-owned aquarium.
The money bought the city a privatized aquarium with hippos, sharks, and a West African aviary. But it did not affect Camden’s median income, the lowest of any medium-sized American city.
“Give us jobs, fix our schools,” said Angel Cordero, a community activist. “Don’t give us fish, let us fish.”
~ * ~
Seven years later, these institutions have failed to create many jobs for residents or tax ratables for the city. Camden is far more dependent on state aid than before…

It’s really kind of sad how sparsely attended this parade is every year—not to mention being held in a [ahem] questionable part of town. In short, a place I wouldn’t be caught dead in after dark.
Though in fairness to Pacoima’s residents and businesses, they at least come out to cheer and applaud the participants. I only wish some of our other S.F. Valley residents [*cough*...white people...*cough*] could be bothered to show up and lend their support.
Lip service just doesn’t cut if for me anymore. You have to make a little effort once in awhile.
“Going postal” is a piquant American phrase that describes the phenomenon of violent rage in which a worker--archetypically a postal worker--"snaps" and guns down his colleagues.
As the enormity of the actions of Maj. Nidal Malik Hasan sinks in, we must ask whether we are confronting a new phenomenon of violent rage, one we might dub--disconcertingly--”Going Muslim.” ....................
Mr. Colonel Jerry, SIR!
I’m so forgetful...
What is the body count from this huge, dangerous “anti-moslem backlash” we’ve been experiencing since 9/11?

Nidal Hassan is a hero. He is a man of conscience who could not bear living the contradiction of being a Muslim and serving in an army that is fighting against his own people.
Well, God damn America, then.

Yevgraf Zhivago: She’d come to Moscow to look for her child. I helped her as best I could, but I knew it was hopeless. I think I was a little in love with her. One day she went away and didn’t come back. She died or vanished somewhere, in one of the labour camps. A nameless number on a list that was afterwards mislaid. That was quite common in those days.
